Did Newt Gingrich Break The Law?

Did Gingrich Get Caught with Hand in the Cookie Jar?

According to ABC News, the former speaker of the House, may have broken the law in the manner in which he reported money paid to his for profit business from his nonprofit charity. Reportedly, his charity ReAL (Renewing American Leadership) paid $220,000 over two years to Gingrich’s for profit business, Gingrich Communications for books and DVDs, but did not properly report the purchases to the IRS.

The charity and Gingrich both deny wrongdoing. It must be noted the former Speaker was fined $300,000 in 1998 for breaking House Ethics violations pursuant to misusing money from a charity. The IRS cleared him of criminal charges in 1999.

Newt, buddy (and I don’t mean that as a term of endearment), we are, in fact, an ADHD-prone society, and we do forgive and forget sometimes. But we also tend to keep records, and when sense that a judgmental hypocrite of a man lacking completely in grace might be seeking a position of power after proving that he has neither learned a lesson or found a sense of grace, we tend to look at the records and look for similar patterns.

Gingrich should be investigated thoroughly in this matter. If he’s broken the law, he should pay the full penalty of having done so. I’m not a religious person, but there is a passage in the Bible in Matthew 18:22-35 where it speaks of the way to treat an ungracious man to whom grace has been afforded. You should take a look at that.

You have been pretty mouthy about whether or not public officials have to follow the law, and about the marital infidelity of others but seem utterly unwilling to admit that you yourself have been guilty of all that you rail against. You are a smart man with clever words, but in the end, we aren’t looking for a president who can manage to skate through with clever arguments and letter of the law over the spirit in which it is intended.

We are looking for a leader who is beyond reproach, whose only skeleton is in his person, and who can say he’s the right guy without having to defend with clever words how it is that he isn’t the wrong one. Go home, Mr. Speaker, and for the love of God, shut up. America doesn’t want you.
