Edmonds Man Pleads Guilty To Attacking Disabled Man For Laptop

(I have cerebral palsy. I’m just glad that justice was done in this case. Still, there’s absolutely NO EXCUSE for what the man or his accomplices did.

None at all.)

Edmonds man pleads guilty to attack on disabled man

EVERETT — An Edmonds man is facing up to 18 years in prison for the March 10 attack on a disabled man.

Joseph Ricks, 20, pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree assault and attempted first-degree robbery, both with a deadly weapon. Ricks admitted his victim was vulnerable.

The man, 56, has cerebral palsy. He was hit upward of 20 times with a hammer, stabbed and shocked with an electronic stun gun. His clavicle was broken and his lung was punctured.

Nicholas Brunson, 18, and Trevor Jones, 19, also are accused of taking part in the attack. Prosecutors say Brunson admitted that he’d been planning the home invasion robbery for weeks after seeing a laptop in the man’s apartment. He also allegedly said he chose the man because he is “weak and feeble,” according to court documents.

Ricks admitted that he attacked the man with a Taser. Ricks is scheduled to be sentenced June 22.

Brunson and Jones are scheduled to go to trial next month.
