Package #1 Is Sent!

$18.20 to send off the first package–which was surprising to me. I was expect to pay close to $30. But because we had a $90.93 power bill (I had $40 of it knocked off by moi–so we’re good!), I didn’t have much left for a second package.

It turns out that Linda Henderson is Erin’s mom–duh?–but she should be getting the books and toiletries in about 7-10 days of this posting. The non-perishable food items are still good and can keep for a few months (if necessary), but they’ll go out in August.

If I can wing it, I’m going to send Tara a box of candy for Ian and Sterling–which will only leave me with the *LARGE* CARE package to deal with for her native Alaskan experience and book writing needs; seeing how all three of them live in Ketchikan.

But I’m happy to be doing this for people. It leaves me with warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

Some nameless people (or parties) often talk of ‘revolution’ and the need to express themselves through violence and senseless bloodshed–in order to change how this country is run–but showing kindness, love, and compassion for complete and total strangers does more for our nation and its people overall then a bullet or a bomb ever would.

As I’ve said before, I don’t know Linda or Erin Rakes-Henderson. But from the pics posted on her Facebook page, they both appear to be wonderful people in a desperate time of need. My generosity (however small) will do more than just show them how people from across the pond care for them, but also remind others that we can all pitch in and do some good from time to time.

Including lifting their spirits–which is most important of all.

So…my job is done. Or it will be on this front. Then–some time down the road–someone else will need help and I’ll be there too. ^_^

PS: The picture posted here shows the devastation of one section of Joplin. This came from Erin’s Facebook page and if I had to take a good guess…? This used to be her mother’s (Linda’s) house.
