Defaulted Student Loan May Put Me Out Of The Running For Job

So my defaulted student loan may have temporarily put me out of the running for a teacher’s assistant job–for now–but that doesn’t mean I’m out of the game.

I may have another shot at getting a note-taking job which pays $10/hr and could lead to the very THING that I’ve been striving for: Teacher’s assistant.

The other job would be helping out in a daycare setting–and that would be taxing enough. Fun, but taxing. Still, there’s plenty of other avenues that are cropping up and I’m taking advantage of it.

Hopefully soon. I was just told that my cash assistance for both my wife and I will be terminated at the end of October–because of another round of staggering Washington state budget cuts.

It’s going to affect anywhere between 900,000 people and 2.1 million statewide and we have no fall back position. But if that does become the case, we’re going to have to move everything out of storage and into our apartment.

But it doesn’t make much sense, since we won’t have any money for things like power and household essentials and there hasn’t been any discussion yet as to how to deal with the tens of thousands of people who are dependent on the program.

Not exactly that many of us can “get a job” at the drop of a hat when the job situation in Everett is just…dismal. True, there are plenty of jobs to be *had* in the professional field, but when it comes to minimum-wage or temp jobs?

NOT THAT MANY.

Certainly not enough to fill in for desperate people who were suddenly cut off without any forethought.

And even I manage to get this job, it still doesn’t make me feel any better. I still wonder what will happen to the rest who weren’t so lucky?
