The Pitfalls of Being A Writer

editingPicture this: You just finished a 120,000 word novel and now you have to go back and edit the damned thing.

Hours upon hours wasted (time we’ll never get back) with our respective mugs glued to the screen and our eyes becoming more and more bloodshot as the days, weeks, and months go by. (The larger the book, the longer it’ll take to edit–trust me. I speak from experience on this front.)

The words just sit there and mock you because you know you’ll have to go in there and start deleting them to make room for more words, or whole paragraphs, sentences, and hell…let’s go for a page!

But it’s a tedious and exhausting expression of our own commitment to bringing out the best in our respective works.

Yes, editing can be a pain, but once we’re done doing the dirty deed, we can all sit back, relax, laugh a bit, and reach for the next can of Folger’s coffee sitting on Aisle 4 of your local Wa-Mart. (Don’t forget the creamer and sugar substitute!)

Until the next time…where we must begin again…
